Edgar Berlanga Stands to Gain From Jumping to Zuffa Boxing

Super middleweight contender Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga could be the next fighter headed to the Zuffa Boxing roster. The Chosen One is a free agent in dire need of a promotional home. Zuffa would be a solid fit for the Puerto Rican, who needs to rebuild his profile.

Berlanga entered the sport with a bundle of praise and is now on the outside looking in. After leaving Top Rank, he signed with Matchroom Boxing. This proved to be a smart move for he landed the biggest fight of his career against multi-divisional champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. He lost the fight, but his popularity remained strong.

In his next fight, Berlanga turned up the trash-talking against top contender Hamzah Sheeraz. Things didn’t go according to plan, and he was stopped in the fifth round after getting dropped several times prior.

WHY ZUFFA IS A GOOD FIT

The one-time title challenger has been without a promotional home since the summer of 2025. Furthermore, his profile took a huge hit following that defeat to Sheeraz as fans and pundits questioned his ability to fight at a high-level.

Zuffa would be a solid fit for someone like Berlanga looking to revitalize his career. In the author’s opinion, they need each other as Zuffa needs fighters with recognizable names.

The Chosen One can benefit from having some fights against decent opponents under the new brand. Zuffa Boxing is run by Dana White, but is backed by Turki Alalshikh. The organization has made some noise within boxing circles, and they promise more things are to come.

Berlanga can’t sit on the sidelines in 2026, so fans shouldn’t be surprised if news of his signing drops soon.
