Rashidi Ellis Drops Golden Boy and Moves into the PBC Roster!
In boxing circles it’s widely known that the welterweight division is among the most talent-dense weight classes in the sport. There are well-established champions Yordenis Ugas (WBA), Terence Crawford, (WBO) and Errol Spence Jr (IBF and WBC) leading the charge. Then there is a slew of up and coming talent looking to be next rulers. Those names include Vergil Ortiz Jr, Jaron Ennis and Conor Benn, to highlight a few.
Each of these fighters has been provided ample television air time and enjoyed a great push by their promotional companies. This is not true of all the top-tier talent in the division, however. The supremely gifted “Speedy” Rashidi Ellis (23-0, 14 KO’s) has despicably wasted away a number of years in the bowels of Golden Boy Promotions’ roster for the past six years. Thankfully though, that time has come to an end. Ellis has just signed a new promotional deal with Premier Boxing Champions.
A BRAND NEW DAY?
In his last bout, which took place roughly a year and a half ago, Speedy took on and defeated formidable hard-hitter Alexis Rocha. This win in particular has gathered more luster since Rocha just beat-up, embarrassed and stopped another Golden Boy project in the form of the extremely colorful Blair Cobbs. The fact that Rocha versus Cobbs just got top billing alone would cause one to scratch their heads given the fact that Ellis literally already beat Rocha and clearly is infinitely more talented than Cobbs. Regardless of this naked fact, Ellis has received far less attention by GBP than either one of those combatants.
To further drive the point home, Speedy, 28, went from being well-ranked in three of the major sanctioning bodies to falling out of the top fifteen of every one. Hopefully, now his days of sitting on the shelf gathering dust are a thing of the past. Within this new stable, Ellis should be able to maintain a steady work schedule. Furthermore, by all accounts, he should be paired with meaningful and eye-catching competition as well.
Only time will tell what the future holds for Ellis. However, given the overtly abysmal job that Golden Boy did moving him, it’s hard to believe that he will not enjoy a sharp improvement in his professional life. Whether this turns out to be true or not, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the news and all the latest developments!
