Jaron Ennis Confident he Defeats Vergil Ortiz
One of boxing’s best young fighters, Jaron “Boots” Ennis (29-0, 27KOs), has transitioned from prospect to top contender in a loaded welterweight division. The Philadelphia native has all the physical skills and attributes to make himself a household name and possibly a champion for a long time. At 24 years old, he continues to get better. Not only that, he’s hungry to face the best the welterweight division has to offer.
A pro since 2016, he has finally positioned himself to where he can no longer be ignored. In his last fight, he brutalized Custio Clayton in two rounds. Boots is ranked second in the WBO, third in the IBF, third in the WBC, and second in the WBA. Sitting in a prime position for a world title opportunity, more than likely in 2023, he wants to get his hands on the likes of former unified champion Keith Thurman (30-1, 22KOs) and WBA Regular welterweight champion Eimantas Stanionis (14-0, 9KOs).
However, another young welterweight contender that fight fans would love to see Boots take on is the hard-hitting, unbeaten Vergil Ortiz (18-0, 18KOs). Speaking on Cigar Talk, Boots was specifically asked about a fight with Vergil Ortiz. He had the following to say:
“That would be a good fight, and that’s what the fans want. So why not? And I’m coming out victorious. “
Both Ennis and Ortiz are extremely talented fighters, blessed with tremendous punching power. A matchup between them is not out of the question. Ortiz, like Ennis, is highly ranked in the standings as well. He is ranked first in the WBO, eleventh in the IBF, first in the WBC, and first in the WBA. While the handlers of both fighters may want to let the fight continue to build and gain interest from fight fans, at some point in their careers, a showdown should very well happen.
