WBC Orders Juan Francisco Estrada into Trilogy Fight with Chocolatito!

WBA Super super flyweight champion “El Gallo” Juan Francisco Estrada (42-3, 28KO) has two options. He can fight WBA Regular champion Joshua Franco (18-1-2, 8KO), or risk losing the title to fight a trilogy with multi-divisional champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (51-3, 41KO).

El Gallo was due to face arch-rival Gonzalez before pulling out due to illness. The boxing community got dealt a double blow when the WBA ordered Estrada to consolidate titles with Franco. Yet, fans were given a reason to rejoice when rumors broke that Estrada would forgo the WBA title fight to pursue the trilogy with Gonzalez.

A fight with Gonzalez would be a non-title bout and is the better choice from a financial aspect. The question remains, is Estrada willing to be stripped of the WBA title?

Fans will be excited to learn that the trilogy may happen after all. Remember, the WBC made Estrada the recipient of the confusing Franchise tag to make way for the trilogy. According to WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, they have ordered Estrada and Gonzalez to fight each other.

THE WBC HAS ORDERED THE TRILOGY

During an interview on a podcast called Rob Tebbutt, Sulaiman revealed that the WBC ordered the trilogy to take place.

“We have ordered Chocolatito to fight Estrada. We’re waiting to see if they will get an agreement [or] go to purse bid, and hopefully that fight will take place.”

The WBC president also stated the Franchise title could be taken away if Estrada forgoes the trilogy in order to keep the WBA title.

“If Estrada decides to go that route, perfect! The Franchise is off!”

As of the writing of this article, there has been no news from the WBA concerning the fight between Estrada and Franco. However, fans are eager to see the trilogy, so no one should be surprised if Estrada gets stripped of the WBA title for the more lucrative Gonzalez fight.
