Erislandy Lara Returns Against An Unknown Opponent!
WBA regular junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (32-3-3, 15KOs) returns to the ring to make a title defense this fall! His opponent will be little known WBA #11 ranked contender Greg Vendetti (22-3-1, 12KOs).
At 37, Lara knows it’s now or never if he’s to regain his standing atop of the division. In his last fight, he completely destroyed Ramon Alvarez who happens to be the older brother of rival and boxing’s biggest star Canelo Alvarez. The bout served as a “moral booster” since looking old in a split-draw against Brian Castano in 2019.
It is safe to say that not many people know who Vendetti is. If it helps, he does have some noticeable names on his resume. Yoshihiro Kamegai and Khiary Gray to name a couple. The biggest being top contender Michel Soro. Unfortunately, he lost that bout by second round knockout so we cannot use that as a positive when scrutinizing his resume.
Bottom line, this fight should be an easy tune-up for Lara. It should be another fight that helps him mentally, in which he believes he is capable of still being a force at junior middleweight.
Vendetti, of course, will look to pull off the upset but that more than likely will not happen!
Fans eager to see the return of Lara and what he has remaining in his tank, be sure to tune in on August 29!
