Errol Spence has options. If no Terence Crawford, then he will target Canelo Alvarez!

One of the bigger match-ups fans are waiting to see is at the welterweight division between unified champion Errol “The Truth” Spence (27-0, 21ko) and WBO champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (37-0, 28ko).

It is the one fight that fans are arguing over on all social media platforms. Moreover, as legendary promoter Bob Arum once put it, that fight is this generation’s “Sugar” Ray Leonard vs Thomas “The Hitman” Hearn.

A QUICK LOOK BACK

Unless you have been living under a rock on an island alone, you should be aware of the frustration from the boxing community when it comes to wanting this fight to happen. It was uncertain as to what was going to happen to Spence’s career after a fatal car accident almost ended everything in 2019. In addition, Arum has stated the fight was likely to happen this year if it wasn’t for the accident.

The unified champion after a long layoff recovering from the accident would later announce his intent to return. He decided to take no tune-up and went straight to tow-division champion Danny “Swift” Garcia. When this news dropped, social media was on fire. Furthermore, Spence’s mental state would become a huge concern for both fans and pundits.

On December 5, Spence answered all the questions about his physical and mental abilities defeating Garcia by unanimous decision. Making a statement to the world he is back and ready to continue fighting on a high level.

THE FIGHT EVERYONE WANTS WILL IT HAPPEN?

Of course, after his victory the drama of fighting Crawford kicked back into high gear. Fans even more than ever want to know when they will see this fight. The Truth is open to fighting the WBO champion. Equally important is as the A-side, he previously said the split would be 60/40 in his favor.

Crawford balked at the offer after being made aware of his rival’s statement and took to social media saying:

“Well look like the fight will never happen.”

While in attendance of the showdown between Canelo Alvarez taking on WBA Super-middleweight champion Callum Smith, Spence was asked how optimistic is he about fighting Bud sometime in 2021.

“I think it could happen, I mean, it’s just for Al and Bob to sit down, and for Bob to stop lying. We will see but I think it definitely could happen next year. We just have to sit down talk and go over numbers things like that but it definitely could happen.

“Like I said I am the big dog at the welterweight division and he is going to have to take a backseat and take the 60/40 or 70/30. Whatever we give him.”

If the Bud fight doesn’t materialize, the unified champion has expressed wanting to fight boxing’s biggest earner in Alvarez.

“I think it is a great fight especially at 160. I am a guy that sucks down to 147. I really think that a lot of people have only seen me fight at 70 or 80 percent. I want to be the undisputed champion at 147, but if it is a great fight at 160, I can definitely move up to 160 and fight there easily.”
