Haney to Crawford: “When I Get a Little Bit Older, We’re Going to Fight!”

Devin Haney Will Need To Move Up Quickly!

Devin Haney tells Terence Crawford he hopes to fight him soon!

In the sport of boxing, we always get a foreshadowing of what could possibly be a high stakes match-up between two fighters down the line that could be separated by a few divisions.

We’ve seen it with Manny Pacquiao vs Oscar De La Hoya, Sugar Ray Leonard vs Marvin Hagler and more recently Errol Spence vs Mikey Garcia just to name a few. Not to say that all these match-ups turned out to be barn-burner type of fights.

“TRUTH” be told, some turn out to be non-competitive fights…pun intended!

However, that doesn’t stop fighters from taking on the challenge to obtain the glory.

Add Devin Haney to that list (potentially anyway). A Matchroom Boxing posted a video that captured and teased a potential fight between the two skilled unbeaten boxers. At the Hooker vs Ramirez weigh-in, Haney and Terence Crawford were seen talking alongside Eddie Hearn.

That is when Haney said to Crawford:

“When I get a little bit older we’re going to fight.”

To that Crawford replied jokingly:

“I’ll be retired.”

See that’s the type of foreshadowing I’m talking about. By no means am I saying this fight will happen, as I truly doubt it will. What I’m saying is I won’t be shocked if these two fighters did lock horns.

Haney is only 20 years-old and currently fights at lightweight (135 pounds). Therefore, there is no doubt that at some point in his career, he will fight at Crawford’s weight of welterweight (147 pounds).

The question is “when?”

Currently, the WBO welterweight champion is 31 years-old and has told 3kingsboxing.com in a previous conversation he has no plans on moving to junior middleweight. Therefore, if Haney is talking about moving up, it will have to be within approximately the two-five years or the pound-for-pound fighter may indeed be retired!

While this fight could peek curiosity of fight fans and pundits if Haney continues to develop and becomes a household name, don’t expect anything from this friendly conversation to result into a fight…at least right now!
