Juan Francisco Estrada defeats Felipe Orucuta by unanimous decision
For no apparent reason, the former long-reigning flyweight champion was obviously not on his game tonight against Felipe Orucuta.
This is Estrada’s first fight since his majority decision loss to Srisaket Sor Rungvisai last February. Estrada (37-3, 25 KOs) was not only expected to win, but put on a dominating performance in tonight’s SuperFly3 main event.
He, indeed, got the win (118-110, 117-111 twice), although he was far from impressive. The fight was closer than the judges’ scorecards indicate.
In short, Orucuta (36-5, 30 KOs) made Estrada fight all night long. He stayed competitive throughout the night, continuously taking the fight to his opponent. Juan, on the other hand, seemed disinterested and lackadaisical during portions of the bout; struggling to find the necessary punches to take full control. Orocuta, for his part, was able to land a surprising number of shots. For the first nine rounds, this was a tit-for-tat bout.
It wasn’t until the last two rounds that Estrada really separated himself. He turned up the heat, landing power punches that really affected a tiring Orucuta. Those moments closed the deal for the night. While 3KingsBoxing feels that Estrada deserved the decision, this was far from a masterclass performance.
