Chris Eubank Jr. Aims To Correct The Narrative In Liam Smith Rematch

It’s redemption time for Chris Eubank Jr (33-2, 23 KOs) as his rematch with the former WBO junior middleweight champion Liam “Beefy” Smith (32-3-1, 19 KOs) will occur on June 17 at AO Arena in Manchester, England. After being stopped in four rounds by Smith in January 2023, Eubank Jr believes things will be different this time around.

In their first bout, Eubank Jr started well before getting hurt and ultimately stopped. The 33-year-old insists that it was a premature stoppage. Despite his angst about how that bout ended, he told the UK source iFL TV that he is responsible for his demise.

“For a split second, I let my guard down. There was a lull in concentration, in alertness, whatever you want to call it, and that gave him the opening to do what he did. That’s my fault.”

PLENTY IS ON THE LINE

Adamant about running it back with Smith, Eubank Jr exercised his rematch clause. After the two camps went to the negotiating table, the match was finalized. Eubank Jr promises to be focused and locked in one hundred percent. For him, the rematch has become personal.

“I know I’m the better man. I’m the better fighter. I’m the better man in that ring, but it’s not enough for me to say it. I have to go out there and I have to show, and I have to prove it . . . I will not stop. There’s no quit in me.”

Eubank Jr understands the assignment at hand. He cannot afford another loss to Smith if he hopes to have any significant future. It’s all business for Eubank Jr, who is hell-bent on revenge.
