Fury Needs to Come Fully Focused In October Rematch with Usyk
It didn’t take long for Queensberry Promotions head Frank Warren to confirm two-time heavyweight champion Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury will rematch undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk in October. The Gypsy King’s legacy will be on the line, and he can’t afford to joke or play in the rematch.
While speaking with TalkSport, Warren revealed the location and month in which the rematch will take place.
“He’s [Fury] back here, as you say, recuperating. His mood is that he wants the rematch, and that’s already signed for, so that will happen.”
When asked for the time frame fans can expect to see the fight, he replied:
“In October.”
HE CAN’T AFFORD TO PLAY AROUND
Usyk’s (22-0, 14KO) victory over Fury (34-1-1, 24KO) continues to dominate the boxing conversation. After watching both men go twelve memorable rounds, the attention will shift to the upcoming rematch.
Fury was in total control of the fight in the early stages and was on the verge of running away with a victory. Then the Ukrainian landed a left hand that dropped the Brit and shifted all momentum in his favor.
Several pundits attribute Fury’s defeat to his constant playing around during the fight. Instead of picking up the pace and going in for the kill when it seemed Usyk was hurt, he allowed the Ukrainian to hang around, which turned out to be costly.
There will be a lot at stake for Fury going into the rematch. He once stated that defeating Usyk would secure his legacy as the greatest heavyweight of all time. So, he can’t afford another loss or his status as this generation’s top heavyweight will come under heavy scrutiny. This is why fans may see a more focused, and less playful Fury going into the rematch.
