Tevin Farmer turns down $2 million offer to fight Gervonta Davis.
There has been a lot of back-and-forth of a super featherweight unification match-up between IBF champion Tevin Farmer and WBA champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis. However, it looks like we will not see that fight anytime soon.
Farmer has reportedly turned down a $2 million offer made by Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe!
For what reason did Farmer turn down the offer? As is the case why so many big fights aren’t made, it all comes down to not enough money.
Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions made the offer to Farmer’s co-promoter Lou DiBella in hopes the bout that would take place this fall on Showtime.
However, according to Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Promotions (Farmer’s other co-promoter) there is a standing one-fight $5 million offer on the table for Davis to fight Farmer on DAZN.
If you believe Farmer and Matchroom it seems as of right now Davis has shown no interest in fighting on DAZN. Farmer, who is almost as active on social media as he is in the ring, made indirect claims about Davis and Mayweather promotions not grabbing the dangling $5 million carrot while responding to an August 15 tweet from his nemisis.
According to Farmer, he’s willing to fight Davis on Showtime on the condition that the money is greater than what he currently makes fighting at DAZN. He called Ellerbe’s offer “insulting” because DAZN’s proposal was more than twice the money he was offered for the fight on Showtime. To him, Ellerbe’s move was disingenuous.
As a result, over the past 24 hours, the IBF champion has seemingly moved on from the prospect of this unification and is now pursuing other options. Again using twitter to express himself, he expressed his feelings on the matter.
Both fighters have been calling out each other for years. Whether it be by barking at each other on social media or nearly coming to blows face to face, the beef between the two champions is legit. It’s frustrating and a shame that these two will not settle their bad-blood in the ring…for now.
Bottom line, once again boxing business is getting in the way of a fight that many fans would really like to see. With Farmer apparently moving on, he has now moved back onto his initial target; JoJo Diaz.
Look for this bout to happen towards the end of this year!
