O’Shaquie Foster Calls for an Immediate Rematch with Conceicao
A fight that has plenty of folks still talking at large is Robson Conceicao’s (19-2-1, 9 KOs) split decision win over O’Shaquie “Ice Water” Foster (22-3, 13 KOs) to capture the WBC junior lightweight title on July 6 in Newark, New Jersey. If allowed his way, the WBC will grant Foster his request for an immediate rematch with Conceicao.
Many pundits and fans felt Foster did more than enough to win a decision over Conceicao. But two of the three judges disagreed and scored the fight for the challenger. Ice Water is demanding a rematch and posted the following in a now-deleted post on social media:
ALL EYES ON THE COUNCIL
There’s been a similar calling for a rematch on various boxing message boards. 3kingsboxing.com has learned that the WBC ring officials committee will have a formal review of the fight and the scorecards. A review is one thing. But that is far from a guarantee that the sanctioning body will order an immediate rematch.
Outrage is growing from boxing enthusiasts through boxing message boards and chat rooms. The general narrative is that Foster was robbed, and something must be done to rectify what transpired.
A fighter with aspirations of unifying the division, Foster hopes he gets the chance to regain the WBC title. As of this writing, it remains to be seen what the sanctioning body will do beyond reviewing the matter. 3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation.
