Frank Martin Pursuing William Zepeda for a Lightweight Showdown
Top contender Frank “The Ghost” Martin (17-0, 12KO) is hoping to share the ring with fellow title contender William Zepeda (28-0, 24KO). Moreover, they could meet for a title shot, depending on how things play out.
On April 29, Zepeda stepped into the ring and brought the Texas crowd to their feet with a second-round beatdown of Jaime Arboleda. During the post-fight interview, Zepeda’s trainer, Jay Najar, expressed a willingness to fight anyone.
“We want to fight anybody . . . we’re ready to fight, and we’re ready to fight anybody.”

FRANK MARTIN IS OPTIMISTIC A FIGHT WITH ZEPEDA CAN HAPPEN
Within the boxing community, there was a buzz after a video surfaced of a conversation taking place between Team Zepeda and Martin following the fight. In an interview with FightHype, The Ghost revealed details of the discussion.
“After they got out, I asked them if we could dance, you know we can get a fight going. They said they like how I approached the situation. So, hopefully, we can get that fight going.”

Martin also offered his view on Zepeda’s performance.
“He did good. It was a short performance . . . he did what he was supposed to do.”

Martin is coming off a dominating performance that thrust him onto the scene over Michel Rivera in a WBA title eliminator in December 2022. The protégé of unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr has been bumped into the top ten rankings by all four major sanctioning bodies.
This fight has a good chance of taking place for the WBA title. Undisputed champion Devin Haney, if victorious against Vasyl Lomachenko on May 20, may decide to vacate the titles and jump to junior welterweight.
With former #1 ranked Ryan Garcia officially announcing a desire to fight at junior welterweight, it leaves the door open for Zepeda and Martin, ranked #1 and #2, respectively, to fight for the vacant lightweight title.
