Frank Martin Believes He Has The Right Style For Tank Davis
On June 15, lightweight contender Frank “The Ghost” Martin (18-0, 12 KO’s) steps in the ring for the biggest fight of his professional career. He will take on knockout artist and WBA 135-pound champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (Abdul Wahid) (29-0, 27 KO’s). Despite the betting odds in Tank’s favor, Martin told Fight Hub TV, he is not fretting about his perceived disadvantages.
“They want to put it in the air to make me believe I ain’t ready, [to] question myself, doubt myself. I’m here for a reason, I fought to get in this position. I am more than ready . . . it’s more motivation. Like I keep telling everybody: bet with me, win with me! It’s more motivation, I ain’t tripping on them odds!”
THE TALK IS OVER!
The Ghost, ranked #2 (WBA) and #7 (IBF), will slide in the ring after being out of action just shy of a calendar year. In his last duel, Martin, 29, took on and narrowly squeaked past Artem Harutyunyan by way of unanimous decision. Yet, before talks of inactivity get thrown around, it should be noted that Tank has been idle for fourteen months. Judging from this metric, both men will be on a level playing field.
Since the prizefight was announced, Martin has been consistent in his messaging that he is on par with Tank’s skill level. Lead by his chief second Derrick James, Martin is certain they have devised a game plan for victory. Thankfully, this grudge match is just around the corner, so all of these questions will be answered in short order!
“Styles make fights. I feel like I’m going to have a more matchable style that can match some of the things that he do as well . . . He cant make the type of mistakes that he makes with those other guys against me. You got a guy who has speed and athleticism, just like you. He going to have to be on top of his game and, like I keep saying, we got a game plan for him. I’ve been watching him for a long time!”
