Sebastian Fundora Decisions Tim Tszyu to Become Unified Champ
In a battle for the WBC and WBO junior middleweight titles, Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora (21-1-1, 13KO) walked away the unified champion after defeating Tim “The Soul Taker” Tszyu (24-1, 17KO).
The Soul Taker came out like a man on a mission, landing powerful right hands that snapped back the head of Fundora. However, Tszyu suffered a cut by an elbow on the top of the head and this is when the fight took an ugly turn.
With the blood obscuring the Aussie’s vision, The Towering Inferno went to work behind that long jab. He fed the champion jabs as if they were M&M candy.
It became a bloody affair as both men continued to land shots on each other. Tszyu occasionally landed straight right hands and left hooks. Yet, he was reduced to throwing one shot at a time.
Fundora showed extreme discipline while fighting behind the jab and keeping the fight at mid-range. In the biggest fight of his career, he finally used that height and reach correctly and refused to get lured into a shootout.
When the scorecards were tallied, one judge had it 116-112 for Tszyu. This was overruled by the other two judges (116-112) and (115-113) in favor of Fundora.
The boxing public got a little teaser of what’s next for the unified champion. In the post-fight interview,, Fundora was steered toward a fight with former unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr..
