Isaac Cruz Stops Rolando Romero To Become WBA Champion!
In his first fight in the junior welterweight division, Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz (26-2-1, 18KO) took the WBA title away from Rolando “Rolly” Romero (15-2, 13KO) with an eighth-round knockout.
In true Pitbull fashion, he attacked immediately and landed a punishing hook that had Rolly on wobbling legs in the first round. Despite recovering and doing a good job boxing over the next few rounds, Romero was getting beaten to the body repeatedly by Cruz.
In the middle rounds, Rolly was able to mount an offense using the jab and a few counter shots. However, Pitbull quickly pounced and hit the WBA champion with hard shots that hurt him once again in the seventh round.
Realizing the title was within his grasp, Pitbull jumped on Romero and landed several unanswered shots. With the champion up against the ropes, he continued to land brutal shots, forcing the referee to stop the fight in the eighth round.
With a second attempt at becoming a champion, Cruz fought hard and is now a new player in a very talented division. Next, boxing fans should not be surprised to see the newly crowned champion in a big unification or rematch against multi-divisional champion Abdul Wahid (formerly Gervonta Davis).
