Fundora vs Spence Winner May See Crawford vs Madrimov Winner
Unified junior middleweight champion Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora (21-1-1, 13KO) will defend the titles against former unified welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. (28-1, 22KO). The winner could face the victor between WBA champion Israil “The Dream” Madrimov and unified welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford.
The boxing news cycle is buzzing as ESPN has reported that The Truth has skipped the line and will collide with The Towering Inferno in October. It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise considering that immediately following Fundora’s victory over Tim Tszyu, Spence jumped in the ring to challenge him.
Bud (40-0, 31KO) was looking to fight the unified champion at one point. However, he has shifted focus and will fight The Dream (10-0-1, 7KO) on August 3. Depending on the outcome, it could set up a rematch fans didn’t get to see at welterweight.
MUSICAL CHAIRS
Keep in mind both Spence and Crawford must get past their respective opponents. But, it’s hard not to ponder the thought of seeing them run it back in a higher division with even more belts and accolades on the line.
As previously mentioned, nothing is written in stone, as Fundora and Madrimov could emerge victorious. The two champions could look to stage a huge unification in 2025. There are plenty of other scenarios that could play out.
The Towering Inferno could end up facing Crawford. That is a fight he preferred, providing the rematch with Tszyu didn’t happen. Fans could end up seeing The Truth take on the WBA champion as well.
Over the next couple of months, the junior middleweight division will be one of the most talked about divisions in boxing.
