Hughie Fury wins lackluster technical decision against Samuel Peter.
In a snooze-fest of a fight Hughie Fury defeated former WBC champion Samuel Peter via seventh round TKO.
The cousin of former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury came out utilizing his jab and movement to offset the aggressive opponent. At 38 years-old it was evident that Peter would need his power to be the deciding factor if he wanted to secure the victory.
If it wasn’t Fury landing a 1-2 combination, it was Peter being aggressive and utilizing dirty tactics to gain some type of advantage. After repeatedly hitting Fury with low-blows, Peter was finally deducted a point in the fourth round.
A few rounds later would see a bizarre “injury” happen to the underdog, who cited pain in his left shoulder. In watching the replay, it appeared he injured himself throwing a wild left hook. This resulted in the fight being stopped in the seventh round as Peter couldn’t continue.
Fury improves his record to (23-2, 13KOs). This wasn’t an impressive outing from either man. With hopes of getting back into title contention, Fury will have to prove that he’s capable of beating a top 10 heavyweight.
Thus far, he’s 0-2 against guys in the top 10 having lost to former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker in 2017 and Kurbat Pulev in 2018.
As for Peter (38-8, 31KOs) it’s clear that it’s time for him to hang up the gloves as he’s clearly past him prime.
