Tyson Fury Excited for Home Soil Title Fight Against Dillian Whyte

“The Gypsy King” Tyson Fury (31-0-1, 22 KOs) will make the second defense of the WBC heavyweight title against mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte (28-2, 19 KOs) on April 23 at Wembley Stadium in Wembley, England. It’s a homecoming for Fury who hasn’t fought in the UK since a decision victory over Francesco Pianeta in August 2018. Since that fight, Fury has fought exclusively in the United States, becoming a big hit and a household name for American fight fans.

As part of the pre-fight activities for his upcoming defense against Whyte, Fury took part in an open workout for the local UK press and fight public. Working the pads with trainer “Sugar” Hill, the 33-year-old thanked the fans for attending, promising he will give them a show. Afterward, he spoke to the media and talked about fighting once again on home soil. With an expected crowd of over 90,000, Fury is buzzing with excitement.

HAPPY TO BE HOME

“It’s absolutely epic. It doesn’t get any bigger than this. 94,000 people in my home country in the capital stadium, this is it. This is the pinnacle of boxing. It does not get any bigger than this; this is it!”

While much of the public’s attention has been on Whyte’s refusal to participate in many of the pre-fight activities, the champ has also kept things close to the vest. Normally very open to the public, he stayed secluded at his training camp. After making the rounds during the fight’s official announcement, the WBC champ went into seclusion at his training camp and had his own blackout with the media blackout. It was done purposely to focus and be fully prepared.

Fury and Whyte have a history as they sparred each other years ago. But in the champ’s mind, that is irrelevant. All that matters is what happens in the ring. Exuding confidence, “The Gypsy King” is raring to go.

“Looking forward to the fight and putting on a good show. At this stage, it doesn’t matter what Dillian Whyte says or what I’ve said. It’s going to be a fight anyway, so that’s it. We’ve both trained hard. We’re both in good form, in good spirits. So, it’s going to be a great night.”
