Tyson Fury Coming for Vengeance in Oleksandr Usyk Rematch
Throughout his career, Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) has been outstanding in rematches. Will that continue in his December 21 rematch with the reigning unified heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs)? There is sufficient evidence that Fury can turn the tables on Usyk.
MESSAGE DELIVERED
Both combatants appeared in a special face-to-face interview for DAZN Boxing. While The Gypsy King has respect for Usyk, the former WBC champion was clear about his intentions for this upcoming tussle and told Usyk what he has in store for him once the bell rings.
“You’re fucked in the rematch . . . You know what’s coming for you. I’m going to fuck you up, bitch!”
Their first battle on May 18 was an epic and thrilling fight that Usyk won by split decision. Fury used his height and length to build a lead during the first six rounds. However, Usyk came on strong over the second half of the contest, including putting down Fury in round nine. That fight is a candidate for 3kingsboxing.com’s Fight of The Year.
Fury argues that he believes he deserved the verdict. He thinks he took the best that Usyk has to offer and will make the necessary adjustments.
LET’S TAKE A DEEPER LOOK
Here’s why one can believe that the big man from Great Britain has a point. Usyk is a wonderfully skilled and accomplished southpaw. However, he was the worst for wear physically as he spent time in the hospital afterward. He’s on record saying it was the toughest fight of his career.
The reality is that Fury is still the considerably bigger fighter. His skills are on par with Usyk. What got him in trouble was there were times in which he showboated. He also made the foolish mistake of lingering on the ropes instead of keeping the action more towards the center of the ring.
When Fury was focused and letting the combinations flow, he set the tone. That has to be his attitude throughout on December 21. It would also behoove him to touch Usyk’s body on occasion. It’s known throughout boxing circles that the unified champion can be hurt up the gut.
The Gypsy King has been in the lab and learned from mistakes. In his rematch with Deontay Wilder in February 2020, Usyk was dominated en route to a seventh-round stoppage win. It may be presumptuous to think Fury will have a similar result in the rematch with Usyk. However, it’s more than plausible that a dialed-in Fury has the skills, toughness, and will to gain sweet revenge.
