Gabriela Fundora Towers Over All Female Prospects in 2023

Gabriela “Sweet Poison” Fundora (12-0, 5 KOs) has emerged from the shadows to become arguably the biggest rising force in women’s boxing. Due to her fistic achievements, Sweet Poison was named as 3kingsboxing.com’s Female Prospect of the Year for 2023.

UPWARD TRAJECTORY

It was a breakthrough year for the 21-year-old. It started off with a ten-round victory over Tania Garcia Hernandez in February 2023.

The resident of Coachella stepped up the level of competition in her next fight, an April 2023 battle against former world title challenger Maria Santizo. Fundora made easy work of what was expected to be a tough fight. She dominated Santizo in an eight-round unanimous decision win.

Next was veteran and then-IBF flyweight champion Arely Mucino in October 2023. In the ring against a world class veteran and two-time champion at 112, Sweet Poison had her way. In control from the opening bell, Fundora stopped her in five to win the IBF title.

WHY SHE STANDS OUT

What makes her special is the combination of imposing size combined with her skillset. At 5’9” and with a nearly seventy inch reach, she towers over the competition. Fundora overwhelms her foes with activity, boxing skills, and a withering body attack.

As special as last year was for her, she has the potential for an even greater 2024. Word on the street is that Fundora could face unified champion Marlen Esparza for undisputed status at 112 later this year.

At the beginning of 2023, she was known in boxing circles as the younger sister of junior middleweight contender Sebastian Fundora. Now Sweet Poison is viewed as a future star of women’s boxing.
