Is Ryan Garcia leaving Golden Boy?

Undefeated rising prospect Ryan “The Flash” Garcia (18-0, 15KO) could be gearing up to split with Golden Boy Promotions.

The 20-year old California fighter has been extremely vocal about his displeasure with current situations. During the weekend of August 3, he took to social media to vent his frustration.

There was nothing too alarming in his first tweet. It carried the usual explanation to fans for cancelling the September bout with Romero Duno. However, the next tweet set off sirens throughout the boxing community. The most striking notion was that the young prospect feels his career receives very little attention.

Golden Boy is all in when it comes to boxing’s biggest star, Canelo Alvarez. He is the biggest driving force behind everything inside the company. However, it can leave some of the other talent feeling they are expendable or at the very least, “left out in the cold.”

In comparable situations, Garcia’s verbal behavior is normally precursory to a fighter pursuing ways to sever promotional ties. These kinds of issues mostly revolve around money when a fighter feels they are being undervalued. Talented fighters like the young prospect don’t like feeling as if they aren’t part of the process.

WORDS OF ADVICE

WBO junior lightweight champion Jamel Herring felt that this lashing out was out-of-line and would offer the young fighter a word of advice. Golden Boy Promotions undoubtedly are aware of the situation and will be looking to see what can be resolved.

It’s surprising to see something like this so public from a promotional company that normally keeps internal issues relatively quiet.

Garcia is set to return in September. However, given recent events, it’s possible that is not a guarantee.
