Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney want a piece of Gervonta Davis!
Newly crowned WBA “regular” lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (23-0, 22ko) was victorious over former unified featherweight champion Yuriorkis “El Ciclon” Gamboa (30-3, 18ko).
This victory for the vacant title would make the Baltimore power-puncher a two-divisional champion in one of boxing’s toughest divisions; one ruled by arguably the top pound for pound fighter and unified champion Vasiliy “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko.
Although the WBA champion managed to score a twelve-round technical knockout, he has come under fire for the simple fact it took way too long finishing off what many feel is a washed-up version of the former Cuban Olympic gold medalist.
Furthermore, contenders in the new division were on scout patrol and they weren’t impressed at all. They even took to social media to publicly put the WBA champion on notice.
A GLIMPSE AT THE FUTURE
Rivals of Davis WBC champion Devin Haney and hot Golden Boy Boxing contender Ryan Garcia took to social media to send the undefeated knockout artist a few messages.
Garcia made it clear on numerous occasions he wants a fight with Davis. He currently ranks #4 with the organization, therefore, that is a potential fight that can be made in the future.
In addition, the popular Golden Boy prospect would respond with a message that is refreshing to see and is welcomed with open arms.
Haney’s situation is a different story altogether. They have a harsh history that goes back to their days at the Mayweather Boxing Gym. Both fighters have been in a social media “war of words” that can only find resolution in the ring.
Either of these fights would be welcomed by the boxing community and going into 2020, the pressure will be on!
