Robert Garcia Will Urge Anthony Joshua to Knockout Oleksandr Usyk!
Unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13KOs) will defends his belts against former champion Anthony “AJ” Joshua (24-2, 22KOs) in their highly anticipated rematch on August 20. Robert Garcia, Joshua’s new trainer, knows how he wants this bout to end.
As most know by now, the first time these two men stepped foot in the squared circle last September, it was Usyk who dominated the majority of the fight with excellent movement, counterpunching and an excellent ring IQ. That’s not to say that Joshua didn’t have his moments, because he did. However, he was simply outclassed trying to box with a master boxer.
That loss led Joshua to switch from longtime trainer Rob McCracken to Robert Garcia. This time around, Joshua is looking to punish and stop Usyk, something his trainer is in full support of.
In an interview with Sky Sports Boxing, Garcia revealed he would be pushing Joshua to get the knockout over Usyk.
“You know what, these last few days, I’ve been very positive from what I’ve been hearing from AJ; not necessarily to me, but to everybody around camp. We’re having breakfast together, lunch together, and they tell me what he’s been saying and what he’s been talking about, and the only thing on his mind is that he’s going to win by knockout.
He could easily win a decision too, but does he have the power? Does he have the strength? Has Usyk been dropped before? Yes, he’s been dropped. Does he like body shots? Probably not, because he’s been dropped a couple of times with body shots. So, can he knock him out? I think so. That’s what we’re going for. I think Anthony knows that himself. Myself and Angel Fernandez are going to push him to go for the knockout.”
With Usyk bulking up and Joshua openly admitting he wants a knockout, this rematch has a chance to go down as an instant classic!
