Ryan Garcia Pressing For Tank Fight
For lightweight boxer Ryan “KingRy” Garcia (20-0, 17 KO’s), life is sweeter than a bear claw from Dunkin Donuts. He is undefeated, swiftly rising in the rankings, an InstaGram sensation and coming off a breath-taking one-punch knockout win over Francisco Fonseca. The only thing that could immediately make him any happier is securing a mega-fight with one of the bigger names in the division.
SQUEAKY WHEEL LOOKING FOR SOME JUICE
Yet, rather than sit around wishing on twinkling stars to make his dreams come true, Garcia is attempting to be a bit more proactive. He is doing so by continuing to openly pursue a late year showdown with WBA world lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (23-0, 22 KO’s). On this occasion, KingRy opted to call Davis out via his InstaGram account.
This is not the first time that Garcia has called for a slug-fest with Tank. In fact, Ryan Garcia and his father have routinely been captured on film calling for the bout. A number of folks believe that Garcia is too green to face such a power-punching boxer such as Davis. KingRy pays these comments and sentiments little thought, as he feels he is already the cream of the crop.
However, no matter how worthy he thinks himself to be, or how often he calls out Tank, there is a very real unofficial problem holding up his dream fight. Although it remains to be made a formal reality, all the rumblings in the industry are indicating that Tank will be trading leather with WBA super world super featherweight champion Leo “El Terremoto” Santa Cruz (37-1-1, 19 KO’s) in his next ring assignment.
PATIENCE MAY BE THE KEY
Both Team Davis and Team Cruz have echoed this sentiment. In fact, in an article published by 3kingboxing, Santa Cruz very recently said his fight with Davis was all but written in stone. This seems to be reflected by Davis telling Garcia to be patient for their own date in the squared-circle. While either prizefight would be a juicy affair, the fight between Cruz and Davis has been simmering for notably longer.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see who Tank Davis officially inks a contract with next. No matter who it is, let’s just hope that wait is not that much longer! Stay tuned to 3kingboxing for all the latest boxing news and updates.
