Garcia Stops Rios In 9

Garcia returns with a KO over Rios

In the main event of Showtime Boxing from the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada, in a 12 round welterweight bout Danny Garcia (34-1,20KOs) defeated Brandon Rios (34-4-1,25KOs) by TKO in the ninth round.

The fight started with Garcia using his jab to make Rios reset while coming forward. In the second Rios was able to have some success when he trapped Garcia against the ropes. The third round saw Garcia using his jab and movement landing the cleaner and harder shots.

In the fourth & fifth round Garcia kept using his jab while landing his power shots at will. Rios to his credit kept coming forward, putting constant pressure on Garcia. The sixth was Rios best round when he landed some good power shots. He was able to pin Garcia against the ropes and unloaded on him. In the seventh round Garcia picked up the pace on Rios hitting him with the cleaner and harder shots.

Round eight, Garcia kept using his jab making Rios reset as he kept coming forward applying constant pressure. In the ninth Garcia landed a perfectly timed right hand that dropped Rios. As Rios made it to his feet he was clearly out on his feet which caused the referee to put a halt to the bout.

It was a good return for Garcia who didn’t show much ring rust in what was clearly a showcase fight. Afterwards Shawn Porter came in the ring and called out Garcia as they had a heated exchange in the post fight interview.
