Murat Gassiev Heavyweight debut set for July 27 against Joey Dawejko.
3kingsboxing.com has learned former unified cruiserweight champion Murat Gassiev will make his long awaited heavyweight debut against fringe contender Joey Dawejko.
The fight will take place on the Jose Ramirez vs Maurice Hooker junior welterweight unification in Arlington, Texas.
This will be Gassiev’s first fight since losing in the WBSS final against Oleaksandr Usyk in July 2018. As for Dawejko (19-7-4, 11KOs), this will be his third consecutive fight against a Russian. He previously fought Andrey Fedosov and more recently, Sergey Kuzmin.
Dawejko is notable for his durabilty. He has only been stopped once in his career against former IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin in November of 2014. This is sure to be a difficult fight for Gassiev, who’ll be looking to shake off some ring rust and make a good impression in his new division against an experienced opponent.
