Gavin McDonnell Eyes Another Title Shot Opportunity

Gavin McDonnell

McDonnell retains the WBC International super bantamweight title by unanimous decision.

Three months after defeating highly touted and undefeated prospect Gamal Yafai, the champion returned tonight against 38-year old Stuart Hall.

There wasn’t much of a chance for the challenger as he was unable to close the distance from the opening bell. The champion made sure to use his height and reach to keep the veteran at distance behind his jab. The times Hall did get in range, McDonnell did an excellent job using his upper body movement to elude shots.

This marks the champion’s fourth straight win since losing his first shot a title against WBC champion Rey Vargas. While members of McDonnell’s team expressed wanting an opportunity for another title shot, they did not mention a possible rematch against Vargas.

The official scorecards were 115-113, and 117-111 x2. With this win, McDonnell improves to 19-1-2 with 5 knockouts.
