Hold On! Vanes Martirosyan may not be Gennady Golovkin replacement opponent!
With Sergiy Derevyachenko’s handlers putting pressure on the IBF to force Gennady Golovkin to either face him or vacate his title, Tom Loeffler is running out of options with little over 3 weeks left until fight time.
Golovkin is upset and maintains he just wants to fight on May 5th, regardless of the opponent.
One could assume that HBO is doing everything it can do to save Golovkin-Alvarez 2 for a later date. Keep in mind folks this is just an assumption, nothing more.
By approving a fighter who hasn’t fought in two years, what else is there to gather for their reasoning of the approval? Choosing a guy who stands little to no chance at beating not only one of the best fighters in the sport today but also one of the most active fighters makes it difficult to think otherwise.
This whole situation has become chaotic thanks to the actions of Canelo Alvarez. A hearing with the NSAC for him to explain how Clenbuterol got into his system is pending and will be settled on April 18th.
Seems like once Canelo is handed down whatever punishment he is due to receive, more clarity should be provided on whether or not Golovkin will fight May 5th.
