Will Tank Accept Trial By Combat with Crawford?
It’s long been known that WBA junior middleweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (41-0, 31 KO’s) is not the backing down type. Over the past several days, Bud has gone back and forth with WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (30-0, 28KO). It is safe to say they will never meet in the ring as Bud offered to fight Davis before in the past.
The whole affair was set off when Davis got in his feelings and aired his displeasure about not being invited to the recent Ring Magazine Awards. Crawford needled him about this and their vitriolic thread took on a life of its own.
THEY WILL NEVER MEET IN THE RING
One thing fans have come to realize is fights rarely happen after a heated verbal exchange on social media. Tank is simple talking because he knows the fight won’t happen. He had a chance to make the fight in 2024, when Crawford offered to fight him at welterweight in an interview on SWAY’S UNIVERSE
“Yeah, if he wants to dare to be great! If he like all the other fighters moving up two weight classes and daring to be great. Tell him to come up there. He said I got a glass chin, so tell him to come touch it! At 147, I’d make 147 for him!”
Bud also appears to be gearing up to dance with unified super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. This is a showdown he’s sought for well over a year. It also represents a fight that, in victory, would undoubtedly prove Crawford’s greatness. Now it seems that Chairman Turki Alalshikh’s financial influences are making headway in negotiations.
Therefore, it isn’t feasible to believe that Bud would fight first at super middleweight and then boil down to welterweight. No matter what ultimately becomes of this feud, there is almost certainly going to be some additional back-and-forth.
