Ramirez vs Browne purse bid pushed back, both teams can reach an agreement
3kingsboxing has learned the purse bid between former WBO Super Middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo Ramirez (41-0, 27ko) and former WBC Silver Light Heavyweight champion “Sir” Marcus Browne (23-1, 16ko) for the WBC Interim title has been postponed.
Zurdo endured a long battle with former promotional company Top Rank. He eventually disclosed that he has parted ways with the company and had formed his own promotional company called Zurdo Promotions. In fact, the former champion scored a tenth round knockout fighting under his banner against Alfonzo Lopez in a tough, under-the-radar bout back in December 2020. The former WBO champion was ranked #1 by the WBC organization. His hope was that a victory would earn him the mandatory position to face unified champion Artur Beterbiev.
Browne, on the other hand, had to endure a rollercoaster 2019. He started the year off defeating Badou jack, winning both the WBC silver/WBA interim titles. Then the 31-year-old Staten Island native would suffer his first defeat at the hands of veteran former champion Jean Pascal. In 2020, boxing virtually was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which hampered Browne from returning to the ring.
MAKING THE FIGHT
The light heavyweight division is loaded with potential huge fights. Things looked even better when the WBC ordered this fight between their #1 and #3 respectively ranked combatants. Furthermore, the two teams had until February 5 to reach an agreement. Unfortunately, they missed that deadline. Therefore, the next step would be a purse bid to see which promotional company would host the fight.
However, there has been an update to the terms. A statement received from the WBC World Title Coordinator, Tito Gonzalez Rodriguez, explained the purse bid has been postponed and will take place on February 12. That is, provided the two parties have not reached an agreement.
