Gennady Golovkin Says Judges Were Used In Previous Fights With Canelo Alvarez!
On September 17, undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (57-2-2, 39KOs) and unified middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (42-1-1, 37KOs) will settle their rivalry once and for all as they meet for the third time. This rubber match has been long in the making. Both fighters can’t stand each other and events from past bouts only further enhance those feelings.
The first time these two locked horns was back in September of 2017. A highly anticipated bout ended in a frustrating draw. Most people felt that Golovkin was the clear winner. However, the judges didn’t see it that way. The result, which frustrated Golovkin, only made him harbor more ill will towards his Mexican counterpart. A year later, the two would rekindle their bitter rivalry and wage war, this time with a victor being decided. It would be Alvarez who would eke out a close majority decision win.
In the aftermath, Golovkin still felt he won the bout. However, talks of a robbery were less credible as Alvarez, in this writer’s opinion, did enough to leave with the victory.
Golovkin continues to believe that politics was used to determine the outcome of the fights. He told the New York Post the following about the judges, who he described as being used.
RELATED: Canelo: “Golovkin Is A Fucking Asshole! He’s Not Honest!”
“I’ll be honest with you; I moved on the next day. I haven’t thought much about it. I realized that those people who gave those scores were used. They were used like disposable tissues are being used. It was time to use them. They were used and disposed of.”
It’s clear that while he says he’s moved on from the previous two fights, he clearly hasn’t. It’ll be very interesting to see how he approaches this third bout, knowing that this bout is likely to go to the scorecards again.
