Golovkin Says No To Deal? But is This Really The End?

While it’s not dead in the water rematch looking less and less likely

An old fashioned showdown was set today for high noon, well not really a showdown per se but at least a deadline. Gennady Golovkin and his team were given a 12pm west coast time, deadline to accept the latest proposal from Canelo Alvarez and his team.

After talking with Golden Boy President Eric Gomez right up until the deadline Tom Loeffler told 3KingsBoxing.com;

“There is no deal, no agreement was able to be made.”

When asked if this was possibly the end of the negotiations Loeffler added;

“We’ll see, we’re still available for September and they don’t have an opponent yet.”

Loeffler wouldn’t comment any further at this time in regards to the talks between the two sides. When asked about Oscar De La Hoya and his social media “poking”, Loeffler said;

“Oscar is Oscar, he wants the fight, we all want the fight but right now we don’t have a deal.”

De La Hoya was quoted as saying “I want the fight, Canelo wants the fight, Tom even wants the fight but GGG don’t want this fight!, Unbelievable.”

Whether one agrees with Golovkin’s decision or not, we can say he’s stuck to his guns here I guess. Personally, I believe the latest offer is or was about as good as he could ask for but at the end of the day it’s his decision.

It’s likely to not be the end of this saga and as more information becomes available 3KingsBoxing.com will keep you updated.
