Gennady Golovkin-Kamil Szeremeta Possible for 2020

Gennady Golovkin delivered a less than stellar performance on October 5 against Sergey Derevyanchenko. After eking out a controversial decision to win the vacant IBF middleweight title, he apparently has his next opponent nearly squared away.

3kingsboxing.com has learned that Golovkin is likely to face unbeaten Polish fighter Kamil Szeremeta (21-0, 5KOs) in early 2020. This assumes there’s no trilogy fight with Canelo Alvarez and the IBF approves Szeremeta as the mandatory.

This news is obviously disappointing considering the WBO middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade looms as a possible opponent. That fight has a lot of intrigue and one that Andrade has been calling for.

If this fight is finalized, it will be met with huge disapproval from fans and rightfully so. This would be Golovkin’s second opponent in three fights that pundits would consider severely out of their league. Back in June, he fought and defeated Steve Rolls by knockout.

Kamil Szeremeta, from what his record indicates, is more boxer than puncher, evident by his career only five knockouts. The only notable name on his resume is former IBF junior middleweight champion Kassim Ouma, whom he defeated via unanimous decision back in August 2016.

Interestingly enough is Ouma has also shared the ring with Gennady Golovkin. He challenged for the WBA middleweight title back in 2011, where he was stopped in ten rounds.

3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
