Golovkin Talks Future And More

Concentration centered on May 5th for Golovkin

With Gennady Golovkin’s rematch against Canelo Alvarez just over two months away all of his focus is on beating the Mexican superstar. Recently 3KingsBoxing.com caught up with Golovkin and talked about the rematch and more.

Golovkin is close to breaking Bernard Hopkins record for middleweight title defenses. When we asked him about the record He said:

“I hope I can beat the record. I like it. It’s very important to me and my team. Maybe. I hope. Thinking about this, I said this would be great. It’s boxing history.” said Golovkin.

The recent talk has been if Golovkin is able to beat Canelo that he will seek a fight with WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders.

“Yeah. Saunders has other belt and we want all the belts but right now we must concentrate on Canelo fight. When we beat Canelo we can talk about Saunders fight and go for all the belts.”

Could that someone else possibly be another fight with Alvarez as talk of a potential trilogy has circulated amongst the media recently.

“Right now we just concentrate on this fight. No rematch in the contract this time. If fans want to see another fight then maybe but right now no.”

Golovkin is currently the betting favorite to win the rematch although the odds are much closer this time around. Most of the time the better boxer is the one who is favored in a rematch but the first fight gave fans no indication as to who has the better chance this time around as the odds show.

One thing is certain there will be a ton of excitement surrounding T-Mobile Arena come Cinco De Mayo. Can’t wait!
