Golovkin’s return to regular HBO a success
Well the numbers are in for the Gennady Golovkin-Vanes Martiroysan fight are in and they’re huge!
GGG-Vanes did an average of 1.25M viewers and a peak of 1.36M viewers, making it the highest viewed fight of the year on Cable TV. Yes that’s right it surpassed the Oscar Valdez-Scott Quigg and Deontay Wilder-Luis Ortiz fights.
Those two fights did huge numbers that averaged 1.1M views. But for Golovkin-Martirosyan to pull in those type of numbers says a lot of about Golovkin’s ability to draw viewers to watch him in action, even against a guy who hadn’t fought in two years.
It’s the highest numbers since Golovkin vs Dominic Wade in April 2016 for any HBO broadcast. If this is any indication of the numbers going forward HBO is in for a big treat.
I’m sure the powers that be over at HBO are overjoyed with this and with big foes on the rise for Golovkin one can assume that this could become the new normal for them.
While the broadcast is now the most watched of 2018 it could be a short lived stand at number as this weekend’s Vasyl Lomachenko vs Jorge Linares card is expected to attract quite a few viewers as well.
