Gonzalez defeats Alejo for a possible shot at Kosei Tanaka

Jonathan Gonzalez moves one step closer to a title fight with victory over veteran Juan Alejo in a classic Puerto Rico vs Mexico rivalry.

From the beginning of the fight, Gonzalez used his speed and footwork advantage to set the pace. Using angles and combinations, he compiled body shots eventually leading to a seventh round stoppage.

This huge win keeps the path to a title in view for the new WBO Latino Flyweight title. He is clearly showing growth from his loss in 2016.

Looking forward, a possible showdown with WBO Flyweight champion Kosei Tanaka is a tall order. The more experienced champion has superior ring intelligence, along with ability of inside fighting.
