Roman Gonzalez Welcomes All Challengers for his Next Fight!

Having already stamped his ticket to the Hall of Fame, Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (51-3, 41KOs) is still going strong. After his latest victory, a dominating one-sided unanimous decision over 112-pound WBC champion Julio Cesar Martinez (18-2-2, 14KOs), the future is bright with options.

Gonzalez was originally set to face off with “El Gallo” Juan Francisco Estrada on March 5. However, El Gallo caught COVID-19. Chocolatito welcomed the challenge of Martinez, who was given a good chance at victory due to his power, pressure, and youthfulness. However, once in the ring, the disparity in skills was on full display.

Now that the Martinez fight is over, he has a slew of options, including trilogy fights with Estrada and Srisaket Sor Rungvisai. There’s also the possibility of a matchup with 115-pound WBC champion Jesse Rodriguez (15-0, 10KOs), who defeated former multi-weight champion Carlos Cuadras to win the title.

FEED ME AN OPPONENT!

In the aftermath of his fight with Martinez, Chocolatito was asked about what was next for him. He had the following to say:

“Whatever comes, the boss [Eddie Hearn] is right here. He’ll decide. As long as they pay me well.”

It’s obvious that the preferred choice for Gonzalez’s next fight would be to see him and El Gallo settle things once and for all. However, if revenge is what he wants against the man who gave him his first two losses as a professional, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai is the guy. If he wants the WBC super flyweight title, then Jesse Rodrguez is the choice.

Regardless of who he tangles with in his next fight, Gonzalez remains an elite fighter that’s must-see TV.
