Greer and Rodriguez settle for Draw!
Looking to bounce back from his upset loss to Mike Plania (24-1, 12KOs) back in June, Chicago-native Joshua “Don’t Blink” Greer (22-2-1, 12KOs) would be back in the bubble taking on Edwin Rodriguez (11-5-1, 5KOs) in an eight-round bantamweight bout.
The opening round would be contested toe-to-toe as both men were looking to make a statement with their power. Showing patience early on, Greer would be in close ripping left and right hands to the body of his opponent. However, as the end of the round approached, he would be lured into a fire-fight which would cause him to eat some hard shots from Rodriguez.
In round three, Greer would display a nice jab and combination punching. He would land some very solid shots, but a brief mental lapse would see him eat some hard right-hands for his troubles.
Round six was probably the best action-round of the fight. Both men dug deep, ripping thunderous body shots. A short right-hand by Greer was the highlight punch of the round, as it pushed Rodriguez backwards.
After pressing forward in rounds six and seven, Greer decided to play it safe and box from the outside, pumping his jab for majority of the eighth and final round. It was a close fight throughout. Would the Chicago native get the bounce-back victory he desperately needed?
Neither man would be victorious, as the fight was ruled a majority draw! One scorecard read 77-75 for Rodriguez while the other two were 76-76.
This is not the result that Greer wanted, but it is one he has to settle for. His record is now 22-2-2, 12 KOs. As for Rodriguez he record is now 11-5-2, 5 KOs.
