Haney Dominates Burgos Over 10 Rounds

Haney easily defeats Burgos in California

Undefeated prospect Devin Haney (20-0, 13KOs) faced his toughest test against veteran Juan Carlos Burgos (33-4-2).

The early rounds would see both men being effective with their jabs. Haney at times would use his speed to get in and out, but was missing with the counter. While Burgos was fighting at his pace using his experience and landing body shots to keep the young challenger off balance.

The next three rounds, Haney elected to fight in the pocket. He stood his ground coming forward with left hooks and counter right hands. Eventually, he hurt Burgos in round 5 with a beautiful right hook counter.

The middle rounds saw Haney mixing up his attack. At one point, he landed six unanswered right hands in a row from fighting on the inside then moving around the ring using a quick stiff jab. Although winning the fight with ease, the crowd would boo whenever Haney would choose to move around the ring.

Haney would have a huge round 9 landing the right hand at will and pinning his opponent against the ropes. However, Burgos showed a excellent beard; taking and giving while landing good body shots.

Haney looked to close the show in the final round as he came out more aggressive behind the jab and right hand.

Burgos showed tremendous heart as he never gave up and finished strong. There is a reason why he has never been stopped.

Haney captured the IBF North American lightweight title while improving his record to 20-0. In addition, he went ten rounds for the first time.

It’s also worth noting that this fight was the first promoted by his own company, Devin Haney Promotions.
