Devin Haney Seeking to Nullify Australian Visa Issues for Father in Kambosos Rematch

Undisputed lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (28-0, 15KO) sits on the throne as its true kingpin. The Dream, looking to defend the undisputed crown in the rematch against George Kambosos, wants a guarantee that his father/trainer Bill Haney has no more issues getting into Australia.

Haney was faced with a dilemma weeks before the fight, as Bill Haney was denied entry into Australia. Furthermore, Team Kambosos was unwilling to accommodate Haney’s request by allowing a headset to be used for The Dream to speak with his father.

Things looked dire for the newly crowned undisputed champion. Yet at the last possible minute, his father was granted a visa.

HANEY WANTS A GUARANTEE FOR HIS FATHER

In an interview with MMA Hour, Haney expressed having stress about the situation of fighting without his father present.

“Honestly, it was very stressful, just worrying about if he was going to make it. Every day was up in the air. It was like, ‘he’s going to be able to come, he’s not going to be able to come, this and that’. We still had to stay focused.”

The undisputed champion was happy everything worked out towards the end. Haney vigorously pushed for a guarantee that his father does not have issues getting into Australia for the rematch.

“If we have to go back, I would have to have a guarantee that my dad would be able to make it.”

“No, if, ands, buts about it. One hundred percent, we need some proof that it wouldn’t be the same situation as last time.”
