Devin Haney and George Kambosos Go to War on Social Media
Prior to his significant bout with Teofimo Lopez, if victorious, unified lightweight champion “Ferocious” George Kambosos (20-0, 10 KO’s) said that he’d battle Devin “The Dream” Haney (27-0, 15 KO’s). In the dustup with Lopez, Ferocious would go on to pick up the WBA Super, IBF and WBO lightweight titles. With Haney owning the WBC strap, and last available belt, a prizefight between the two would crown the undisputed champion of the division.
One would think this is all the motivation that either boxer would need. Haney has been chasing the undisputed bout since Lopez was still the champ. Sadly, this fight never came to fruition. In order to avoid repeating this frustration, and to show his sincerity, Haney even agreed to fight Kambosos in his native Australia. Unfortunately, the willingness to travel was not enough to bait the hook for Team Kambosos.
WOOFING IN THE WEB
On the one hand, it’s understandable that Kambosos didn’t immediately pen a contract with the Dream. From a business aspect, he can still make major bouts with Gervonta Davis, Ryan Garcia or even Vasiliy Lomachenko. All of these would be serious paydays for both competitors. On the other hand, none of those bouts hold the same historical significance of a showdown for undisputed. Clearly Haney is frustrated with the situation as the two have engaged in a recent war of words
MAKE A CHOICE!
For better or worse, it would be a relief if Kambosos would pull the trigger on who his next opponent is rather than extend this game of ‘guess who.’ Hopefully we’ll have an answer soon. Yet, regardless of who or when Kambosos selects his next in-ring test, 3Kings Boxing will be there to report the news!
