Devin Haney Promises to Teach Regis Prograis About Fear!
In his next assignment, unified lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (30-0, 15 KO’s) is moving up to challenge for a new title. To complete this function, Haney will face the ferocity of WBC super lightweight champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (29-1, 24 KO’s) on December 9. Not only is Haney stepping up in weight versus a dangerous opponent, he is doing so in a hometown match.
With all these moving parts, it’d be understandable if The Dream was having some feelings of nervousness. After admitting that he had some butterflies in the belly, his opponent, Prograis, was quick to label the feelings as pure fear. Of course, Haney did not take kindly to this coloring and responded with force via his social media.
IS THIS DO OR DIE?
Given that this upcoming showdown is a title fight, there is obviously a great deal on the line. When reviewing the two fighters however, it stands to reason that Prograis has a bit more to lose. To begin, obviously, he has his title up for grabs. Beyond that however, Rougarou has certainly entered the second and final half of his career, being that he is 34 years old.
In fact, after losing his WBA 140-pound title to Josh Taylor back on October 26, 2019, it would take three full years to get another title shot versus Jose Zepeda on November 26, 2022. Said to say, Prograis more than likely doesn’t have another three years to spend getting back to the mountaintop. Therefore, Prograis will certainly give it his all come fight night.
Yet, it probably does not help his case that the greater majority of the boxing world is labeling Haney as the favorite to win the fight. In the end however, Haney and Prograis will have to settle the matter in the ring. Thankfully, no matter who prevails, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report all the aftermath and implications!
