Devin Haney tells Gary Russell to stop with the games!

According to Team Haney, WBC world featherweight champion “Mr.” Gary Russell Jr (31-1, 18 KO’s) has been supplied the customized contract that he was looking for. After receiving what he felt was a loaded contract, the featherweight champion quickly went to his social media to air his displeasure. Seeking to leave him no tangible reason as to not take the bout, Team Haney rapidly amended the contract in accordance to Russell’s gripes. Despite fashioning a new contract in accordance with his specific concerns in mind, WBC world lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (24-0, 15 KO’s) doesn’t believe that Russell will sign.

WHATS THE HOLD UP?!

By his estimation, the call-out rampage that Russell has been engaging in since early July is all bluster and media hype. The Dream believes that Russell is getting a rush issuing the idle threats and has little intention on making good on them. And as the young promoter revealed to Fight Hype, the featherweight champion has already had more than enough time to sign on the dotted line.

“I just think that he is full of cap, that he doesn’t really want that fight. But we shall see in the next day or so, because it shouldn’t take that long to sign the contract. Everything that he asked for we gave to him, so it shouldn’t be much to go over. Everything that he asked for is in the contract, it should be easy.

He could have been signed it already. That’s why I just feel that he is full of cap and he’s doing this for attention…but we just got to see if he actually takes the fight or is just running his mouth like I think he is.”

GAMBOA STILL A LIVE OPTION

Due to his belief there is a highly likelihood that Russell might walk away from the fight, Haney is still very open to a fight with former world champion Yuriorkis “El Ciclon de Guantanamo” Gamboa (30-3, 18 KO’s). Prior to the recent development with Russell, it was looking like Gamboa was going to be the lightweight champion’s next opponent. And as far as The Dream is concerned, that bout is still very much on the table.

“It doesn’t matter, either one of them is going be the same outcome. I feel like I am just ready for whoever at this point, any style. You know Gamboa is a good fighter, Gary Russell is a good fighter but I am on a totally different level than either one of them guys. And I just hope that after the fight, when I become victorious, in either one of those fights, whichever fight is first, that I get my credit.”

BE FOR REAL

In the end though, when it comes to Russell, for Haney, seeing is believing.

“I’m only going to put it on the table because he put out in the public what we wanted to put in the contract; he put it out in the public. So that is the only reason why I’m putting it out what he said, he said he wants to fight in December.

The dude wants fight the day after Christmas! Have y’all ever heard of a fight happening the day after Christmas? A weigh-in happening on Christmas? That’s why I say the dude is full of cap! Come on dude, stop the games!”
