Devin Haney on faceing Vasiliy Lomachenko!

When it comes to the subject of Vaisiliy Lomachenko, Devin “The Dream” Haney is impressed but not in awe.

This is why the highly-touted lightweight would enjoy fighting the gifted Ukrainian. Haney is under the impression that his skill, size and in-ring composure would be more than Hi-Tech could contend with.

It’s an interesting match-up to say the least. The #2 ranked WBC contender (soon to be #1 with Luke Campbell’s loss) is overtly talented, continuously growing into his body and is a big lightweight. In fact, Haney doesn’t foresee remaining in the division too much longer.

Before the Californian can get to Loma, however, he first has to win his September 13 lightweight title eliminator against Zaur Abdullaev. The meaningful bout will air live on DAZN.

If you leave the predicting to Haney, he’ll surely tell you that it won’t be a problem overcoming Abdullaev. Not that he is taking him lightly, it’s more a case of The Dream chasing bigger dreams down the line.

It’s no secret that the confident Haney has long thought that he can topple Hi-Tech. He is on record saying so. However, the manner in which a folks react to the declaration is beginning to shift. In an interview conducted with Fighthype, the Dream went a bit further into the matter.

“I’ve said that I can beat Lomachenko and after that fight, I feel like a lot of people are starting to actually like believe me out here, actually starting to see.

“I’ve been reading a lot of blogs, been reading a lot of stuff and people are saying that ‘Devin could beat Lomachenko. But before they were saying that he would blow me out the water so you know, timing is everything.

“When the right time comes, hopefully we’ll make the fight.”

Just because Haney feels that he could bump Loma off, this is no sign of disrespect or an over-inflated ego. The Dream has a great deal of admiration for Lomachenko, which is the true reason that he wants to fight him.

Like the Predator that stalked Schwarzenegger, there is no glory in hunting game that is not dangerous. Haney wants to claim Hi-Tech’s scalp precisely because it will be dangerous to acquire.

“Lomachenko is a great fighter to me! I don’t want anybody to get that confused. I think that he’s a really good fighter and that’s why I want to fight him.

“I don’t want to fight him because he is a bad fighter or because I think that I could beat him so easily or nothing like that. […] But I feel like that fight will take me to the next level and show the world, you know, really what Devin Haney is made of and it may put me on the pound-for-pound list.

“Who knows. It may be that fight that makes Devin Haney a superstar, we never know.”

It’ll be fun to see if this bout does come together, although the clock is definitely ticking and it’s not on Haney’s side! Yet again, first Haney has to get past his September 13 dance date before he becomes too preoccupied thinking about bigger fish to fry down the line. No matter what happens, 3kingsboxing will be there to report the latest developments!
