Andy Ruiz Checking Fan Interest in Luis Ortiz PPV Fight
In the heavyweight division, the pieces are moving very quickly. Given the climate is not about to slow down, fights are moving along like pieces on a chessboard. One of the fights that spark the interest of the fans is former unified champion Andy “The Destroyer” Ruiz (34-2, 22 KOs) and two-time title challenger Luis “King Kong” Ortiz (28-3-1, 25 KOs).
This isn’t the first time the idea has been floating around in the air. In 2021, Ortiz made it clear that his team was advocating for a fight with Ruiz Jr. King Kong was last seen in the ring defeating former champion Charles Martin via a sixth-round stoppage.
In 2019, Ruiz Jr lost the rematch and all the belts to Anthony Joshua. Moreover, his character came into question after that dreadful performance in the rematch where it was clear he hardly trained.
The Destroyer is the first Mexican heavyweight champion in boxing history. Furthermore, he took a fifteen-month hiatus while teaming up with Eddy Reynoso to help revitalize his career. The target opponent for his return to the ring was former title contender Chris Arreola.
Despite a successful return, Ruiz’s performance was still underwhelming, and he has been on another layoff waiting to return.
The fight would be huge for both fighters considering their rankings. Ruiz is ranked #5 WBO and WBC, and #9 IBF. Ortiz ranks #2 IBF, #7 WBO, and #8 WBC. So their fight could be a title eliminator.
Ruiz is keen on the idea as he took to social media asking the fans if they want to see the fight on Pay-Per-View.
