Devin Haney calls out Vasyl Lomachenko!
Rising unbeaten lightweight contender Devin Haney (22-0, 14KOs) called out unified lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko in a recent interview on The Breakfast Club. Haney was asked specifically who he would like to fight, and his answer was simple.
“Lomachenko, I want to fight Lomachenko. I feel like that’s the fight. 2020 y’all gonna see me beat Lomachenko.”
Haney last fought on May 25, where he scored a highlight reel knockout of Antonio Moran.
Lomachenko is a wanted man, as he’s been called out by another lightweight contender, Teofimo Lopez. However, Luke Campbell will get his shot at the champion as they battle for the vacant WBC lightweight title.
As for Haney, who’s closing in on a title opportunity, he will tell you and anybody else that’ll listen that he’s the future of the sport. He has a ways to go to cement his standing in that position in the sport.
Although, he certainly has the skill set and personality to become a transcendent superstar. Time will tell.
He is currently ranked #4 by both the WBA and WBC, #9 by the IBF and #6 by the WBO. In addition, its expected he will be involved in a WBC title eliminator by the end of this year where he may get the opportunity to face the winner of the vacant WBC title bout between Lomachenko vs Luke Campbell.
If everything pans out, Haney may actually get his opportunity in 2020!
