Heavyweight contender Andy Ruiz signs with Al Haymon
3kingsboxing.com has learned Andy Ruiz (30-1, 20KOs) has signed a deal with powerful advisor Al Haymon.
This is the result of a successful buyout of the remainder of his contract with Top Rank, who promoted him for majority of his career.
Ruiz will join a stable of Haymon advised heavyweights that include WBC champion Deontay Wilder, Luis Ortiz, Dominic Breazeale and Joe Joyce among others.
He is a talented fighter that has often been criticized for his lack of commitment in recent years. Most critics citing his weight issues being a problem similar to former top heavyweight Chris Arreola in years past.
In 2016 we did see a glimpse of what he could do when in-shape versus Joesph Parker in their fight for the vacant WBO title. He’d go on to lose a controversial split decision.
His last ring outing came in July where he out pointed long time contender Kevin Johnson for a unanimous decision victory. This move seems to be one that will help bring his name back into relevancy when fans scrutinize the heavyweight landscape.
Ruiz’s current rankings in all four major sanctioning bodies are as follows:
- WBC: #19
- WBA: Unranked
- IBF: #15
- WBO: Unranked
