Eddie Hearn Wants Teofimo Lopez Sr. to Accept Defeat
In boxing, fighters and their team always look to blame something or someone for their defeats. Moreover, they find it especially difficult when the conqueror is believed to be inferior. Teofimo Lopez Sr has turned it up a notch by blaming an entire network in DAZN for his son’s [Teofimo Lopez Jr] upset defeat to George “Ferocious” Kambosos Jr (20-0, 10ko).
Newly crowned unified lightweight champion Kambosos still has the boxing world buzzing about the upset victory over Teofimo “The Takeover” Lopez (16-1, 12ko). It was an unbelievable sight as fans saw Lopez’s face get busted up, swollen, and badly bloodied.
LOPEZ SR PLAYS THE BLAME GAME
The former world champion was visibly in denial while listening to the reading of the judge’s scorecards. During the post-fight interview, Lopez Jr would go on an unbelievable rant about how he did not lose the fight, but won by a margin of 10-2. Trainer/father Lopez Sr took things to a whole new level by calling the fight a complete robbery and claiming there will not be a rematch.
“I ain’t having no rematch man…In this game, you gotta knock everybody out. If you don’t knock them out, this is what happens, you know…It was a complete robbery!… Everybody, everybody in the world knows what happened! Everybody saying he [Lopez] won 9-3, 10-2.”
Furthermore, he laid blame on DAZN in the interview with Seconds Out.
“I should have never fought with DAZN. I should have stood with Top Rank because those are the people that really love us.”
EDDIE HEARN WITH A MESSAGE FOR TEAM LOPEZ
DAZN promoter Eddie Hearn, during an interview with Boxing Social, responded to these outrageous remarks with a message of harsh reality for Teofimo Lopez Sr.
“About a week ago, it was the best thing he’d [Lopez] ever done, coming to DAZN. But, all of sudden, he lost a decision that everybody thought he lost, and it was my fault, and it was DAZN’s fault. You can’t reason with someone like that….He messaged me saying he can’t believe what I did.”
“I said listen, we treated you with unbelievable respect. I love Teofimo. I love his dad, good people. But you have to move away from delusion… If Teofimo Sr is saying that kind of stuff, how do you expect your son to learn and reflect on what happened?”
Hearn would conclude his statement by offering some helpful advice for team Lopez.
“You got beat, there is no disgrace. Take it on the chin…virtually everyone had Kambosos winning that fight. So take it on the chin, move on and dust yourself down and people will respect you for doing that and coming back stronger.”
