Eddie Hearn Wants to Make Conor Benn Versus Kell Brook
After getting the most satisfying win of his career over arch-rival Amir Khan, Kell “Special K” Brook (40-3, 28 KO’s) is riding a serious high that could produce even more lucrative fights. Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn wants to make a big fight with welterweight contender Conor “The Destroyer” Benn (20-0, 13KO’s).
Many inside the boxing community felt that the former IBF welterweight champion should consider retiring, having beaten Khan. Well, Brook is not too keen on walking away yet, with so many big fights that can be made.
There is a showdown with middleweight contender Chris Eubank Jr that has been brewing. The two countrymen have been going back and forth on social media, with Brook pitching a catchweight at 155.
Hearn believes the more sensible option is the Destroyer. Keep in mind Benn, after dispatching former WBO junior welterweight champion Chris Algieri, called for the winner of Brook vs Khan.
Benn took to social media making it clear he wants to fight Brook to get revenge for his friend, Amir Khan.
During an interview with Matchroom Boxing, Hearn laid out the rationale on wanting to make Benn vs Brook.
“I don’t think Kell Brook should retire to be quite honest. I said to him the other night, I said, ‘look, you’ve got the Conor Benn fight, and you got the Chris Eubank Jr fight. Now, why when you have two fights that are basically identical in size, would you choose to go up to middleweight to fight Chris Eubank Jr?’
I think there’s a real good chance we could make the Conor Benn fight. I think it’s a huge fight […] one of those classic crossroads fight. A lot of money for both, which is obviously going to be appealing to them.”
